Drawing Complete
This painting was going to be a combination of brushwork and palette knife. I designed and drew the composition with the intention of the Kingfisher sat quietly on its favourite fishing post being in the foreground. This quiet summer’s day with the meadow in the distance gave the painting the depth and interest I was looking for.

Blocking In Background
Firstly, I blocked in the sky with various tones of blue, adding the creamy horizon and darker tones for the horizon line.

Adding More Shapes Of Colour
Mixing various colours I continued adding shapes, being careful not to add to much detail. The horizon colours being in the distant were mixing with the skyline adding to the sense of depth.

Painting Completed
The detail was added in the sky which gave an illusion of depth. All of the painting was then completed using a palette knife. The combination of brushwork and palette knife worked well in my opinion in this painting. I hope you enjoyed seeing the construction and finished painting.
