Kings Visit To The Crib

Kings Visit To The CribHarley Johnson2025-10-29T17:28:20+00:00
Drawing Composition
I wanted to include multiple figures in this composition, all of them focusing on the crib and young child. The composition is now completed and ready for the next stage.
Tonal Study Composition
Once traced onto the canvas, I decided to paint a tonal study of the composition, giving me an idea of light and dark tones.
Started Under Painting
I mixed blocks of colour and started blocking in the background, mixing loose colours for the background which later will be painted over in more detail.
Continuing Blocking In
I concentrated on the background, particularly paying attention to the candle and light source on the wall. Adding shapes and colour around it, this gave more shape to the figures.
Tonal Study Complete
This part of the painting is challenging, adding details to the faces, adding highlights and dark tones to give depth to the painting.
Adding More Detail
This little painting was an interesting exercise, including so many figures in a composition is a challenge in itself. I feel that I accomplished what I set out to do.
Completed Painting
I hope you like this little painting and showing its construction.
