Kings At Rest

Drawing and Design Completed
For this painting I found several images, I wanted the main characters in the foreground of this painting, the dramatic sky in the background will be under painted later.
Jon Designing The Painting
Here you can see how I work, having everything around me I can draw the composition.
Starting To Add Colour
Having traced the design onto a canvas, I started underpainting the background.
Blocking In Background
This dramatic sky was going to be an interesting feature of the painting, blocking in with loose shapes of colour sky was beginning to take shape.
More Colour Added
Here you can see more colours being added, the effect in the sky was dramatic and just as I imagined.
Under Painting Continues
I continued underpainting in the foreground the figures and the camels were the last to be painted.
Detail Added
Starting to add more detail enabled me to work on the figures in the foreground, adding highlights and shadows where needed.
Painting Completed
Continuing to add detail and the shooting star in the sky were the final pieces to this painting. I enjoy painting dramatic skies and I think the combination of this and the interest from the figures brought the painting together. I hope you enjoyed the process.
