Single Red Rose

Single Red RoseHarley Johnson2025-11-05T12:25:12+00:00
Drawing Completed
Came across this little rose and thought it would make a nice painting. Here I am drawing with a HB pencil, I wanted to keep this composition simple and draw some interesting shapes.
Jon Designing Drawing
Here is the pencil drawing completed. The next step tracing the image, ready for the canvas.
Outline Painted On Canvas
Tracing completed onto a prepared canvas and the outline painted, so as not to lose any of the detailed drawing.
Painting Shapes
Having mixed tones of red paint, I start blocking in the light and dark tones. Being careful to keep the shapes of the rose petals.
Painting Completed
As I worked across the composition mixing colours and making sure that light and dark tones kept the shape of the flowers, the painting was coming together. Adding the detail painting to the leaves and some highlights was the final process. I hope you enjoyed the process and seeing the stages of this painting, thank you for viewing.
