XMAS Flower Wrapping Design

XMAS Flower Wrapping DesignHarley Johnson2025-11-05T14:07:11+00:00
Design and Drawing Completed
This painting was an experiment on many levels: firstly, it was painted using acrylic paint, also I changed the design during the painting. Whether it works or not? I will let you decide. I designed and drew the composition on paper, before tracing onto the canvas. Deliberately wanting to create interesting negative shapes within the composition.
Blocking In With Colour
Blocking in with colour I decided to deliberately change the design, this is something I rarely do at this stage of the artwork. I was having doubts about the painting being too complicated and busy, I painted out 2 of the flowers.
Changing Colours Slightly
Continuing to block in with colour I was getting concerned that there was not enough variation in colour within the painting, I decided to change some of the leaf designs and colour.
More Interest In The Composition
I also outlined all the leaves and berries to give them more definition. This I thought in my opinion gave the painting more interest and the colours defined the shapes.
Jon Painting
Here you can see me painting, the different tones of colour already mixed on my palate. The design of my mouth sticks allows me to alter the angle of the paintbrush and achieve different strokes of paint.
Painting Completed
Painting Completed. Working with acrylic paint is certainly different to oils, I cannot say it will be my preferred medium in the future; however I enjoyed the experience.
