French Cafe Scene

French Cafe SceneStephen Johnson2017-12-19T12:46:39+00:00
Jon designing and drawing cafe scene.
This painting was an aspiration for a photograph we took while holiday in Airvault, France. I added the various figures from different sources, I intended the painting to be mainly colours and shapes more than having lots of detail on the figures.
Under painting the cafe scene.
Here you can see the under painting, the temptation is always to put in too much detail this point. Basic colours and shapes are all that is needed.
Painting the figures and buildings with more defined colours and shapes.
I decided to put the corner of the courtyard in shade, I wanted to have distinct dark and lights which I felt gave the painting more depth. The challenge being not to paint the distant figures with to much detail and colour.
Cafe Scene Completed
This painting I have enjoyed immensely, the added interest of actually be in this location made it very special to me. This is the first painting I have undertaken in this new style, the vibrant colours and shapes have given the painting the impression of a lot of detail using colour and shapes. This I hope will be the start of many paintings in the future in this style.
