Drawing Basic Shapes
I wanted to create a still life painting, a trip to the local shop and I came back with the items included in this photograph.
This artwork was created using liquid charcoal, this very versatile medium when used with water was an interesting tonal study. Ideal for creating different textures and tones. This medium is very new to me and I was impressed with the experience.
Arranging the items in an interesting composition with a direct light source, made in my opinion an interesting piece of artwork.
Veg Still Life Drawing Completed
I’ve drew the composition on paper with a HB pencil, drawing from life I feel is the ultimate challenge to an artist.
Starting The Tonal Study
Once the drawing was completed I started with the liquid charcoal, slowly building up tonal layers.
Continuing Details With Paintbrush
As the layers of liquid charcoal built up, the drawing was becoming more realistic and with the dark tones being applied it gave the composition more depth.
Photo Of Veg Still Life
I knew I had to take a photograph because the fresh items would not last for the entire painting experience. (Hence the photograph) towards the end of the painting the vegetables were getting rather past their best and the photograph came in handy.

To summarise the peace of artwork: I enjoyed the experience and using this versatile medium, using the liquid charcoal made you think before applying, the results I felt were worthwhile taking the time. Something I will share with you again.
